Bleed.

"Bleed" is the term for printing that goes to the edge of the paper. If there is a white border around the piece then it does NOT have bleed.

Bleeds are created by cutting into the image. The best way to achieve a bleed is starting with a document size equal to the finish size. When you place your background or bleed image you will need to extend it 1/8" past your document size.

If the backgrounds or images you want to bleed are not extended it could leave a white space due to slight movement during the cutting process.

Keep in mind that your text still needs to be kept within your document size. A safe distance in from the document for text is 1/4".
